~Chapter 11~
Daddy’s Phone Call
Easy had gotten to a point where he was making a lot of money between me, April and a couple of other girls here and there so he could afford to have different places for us. We moved to an apartment off NW Expressway. The apartments were really nice. They were like brand new. I had never lived in anything that nice. The kitchen even had a dishwasher. That was a first for me. The new place had to have new stuff too. This place was bigger than our last apartment. Just like at his Mom’s house, the living room was museum quality. All the furniture was oiled, electronics wiped down and glass cleaned on all surfaces. We even had those plastic runners like his mom. And you’d better not step on nothing but those runners. If you did, he would stomp on your foot with his boot. It didn’t take too many of those to stay on the plastic. The cabinets were full of food and so was the fridge. I took special care of his things and made sure everything was clean at all times. If I used a glass, I cleaned and put it away when I was done. Everything was perfect in there. The routine became normal as normal could be for me. I would sleep in with Easy. Get a shower out of the way. Watch movies or roll around town with him. Then get ready for work and be there by 2pm each day. Months went by of the same ole same ole. I started getting more and more comfortable with what I was doing. The best part was I had some friends, well I had girls at work to talk to. I had to find the good parts in all the bad to keep from completely losing myself. I had forgotten most of what a young girl like me should be doing. I was living the life of a wife. I was his lover, cook, maid, friend, and movie critic. I didn’t see April all that much anymore. I know he would go over there when he wasn’t at the club but at least I didn’t have to see it anymore. Easy had dropped me off at the club and I was in the back with the others pulling my crap out of the bag. Steve comes walking through the door “Men coming in Ladies” he announced loudly as he walked in. and “Men” he meant. There was a parade of them, about 8 or 9 in business clothes. Then I saw police officers trailing up the back as the first man walked right up to me. “Can I see your ID young lady?” “Sure” I said as I reached in my bag for my bar card. I handed it to him with confidence and he looked at it front and back. “Where did you get this?” “Downtown, at the station” I said. “What’s your name?” “Amanda” I blurted out quickly.
